For Partners: What to Listen For Beyond PunchOut

Helping TradeCentric partners identify opportunities outside of just PunchOut, including PO Automation, Invoice Automation, and more.

Katy Dunne

If you’re a Systems Integrator or eCommerce partner, there’s a good chance you’ve got TradeCentric filed under “the PunchOut company.” That’s where the story started, but it’s not all we have to offer. We also have PO Automation and Acknowledgements, Invoice Automation, Advanced Shipping Notices, and eQuotes.

This is the question we hear from partners more than almost any other: how do I know when a client conversation is about more than PunchOut? Here’s what to listen for.

“Our AP team is buried.”

Manual invoice matching, PO-to-invoice mismatches, an accounts payable team drowning in paper — that’s not a PunchOut conversation, it’s a PO and invoice automation conversation.

We’ve seen clients processing thousands of invoices a year by hand, correcting mismatches one at a time. That’s the exact workflow PO automation and invoice automation exist to fix, and it’s often the most expensive, most invisible pain point in a client’s operation. If a client mentions AP headaches almost in passing, don’t let it pass — it’s usually the biggest opportunity in the room.

“Can the buyer confirm they received the order?”

That’s a request for PO acknowledgement. It’s a small ask, but it usually signals a buyer relationship mature enough to want more structure in the process, not less. Buyers who ask for acknowledgement are typically further along in formalizing procurement, which means they’re also more likely to be receptive to the rest of the automation suite.

“They need visibility into shipments.”

That’s an advanced shipping notice (ASN) conversation, and it tends to come from the same enterprise buyers who are already asking about PO acknowledgement. Once one of these comes up, the other usually isn’t far behind — they’re two sides of the same “we want to know what’s happening before it happens” mindset.

“[Some other platform] mentioned PO automation to us.”

This one’s increasingly common. Clients are hearing about procurement automation from their ERP or CRM vendors before they hear it from you. If a client repeats a term like “PO automation” that they picked up somewhere else, that’s your cue to bring the conversation back to a partner who already builds it — rather than letting a third party define the solution and own the deal.

Why this matters for you

Every one of these signals is an expansion opportunity, not just for TradeCentric, but for the relationship you already have with that client. You don’t need a new deal to act on it. You need a five-minute conversation about how PO and invoice automation are part of the same integration you already helped them stand up for PunchOut.
